Diagnostics Engineer

Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Diagnostics Engineer with strong expertise in Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) and On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) for automotive systems. The role includes collaboration with development teams, system knowledge application, and execution of diagnostic examinations and integration activities. Strong experience in ECU diagnostics development, UDS protocol implementation, diagnostic data authoring.
Additionally following experience Diagnostic technologies ISO-TP, DoIP, DSDL, FDS, PMODE, UNECE IVD, OBD, OTA, SFD, DIDAS, AVW, CodeBeamer, DOORS, PTC and ODX would round up your profile.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and validate diagnostic specifications, fault codes (DTCs), and service routines.
- Analyse CAN, LIN, and Ethernet communication for diagnostic purposes.
- Collaborate with software and hardware teams to integrate diagnostic features.
- Ensure compliance with standards like ISO 14229 (UDS), ISO 15765 (CAN), and SAE J1979 (OBD-II) standards.
- Prepare documentation for diagnostic strategies and test reports.
- Good to have working experience with Agile Methodologies.
- Creation of artifacts for diagnostic role across various platforms.
- Organisation and moderation of supplier workshops and system kick‑off meetings.
- Processing diagnostic and integration exams.
- Advising ECU and function departments on diagnostic technology and architecture.
- Establishing diagnostic data migration from old tool environments to the current systems and ensure data consistency.
- Review of diagnostic cross‑sectional specifications and support ECU and function departments with filling instructions.
- Support and methodological support for diagnostic authoring teams.
- Coordination of commissioning times component engineers and production.
Must Have Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical/Electronic Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in automotive diagnostics development.
- Strong knowledge of UDS (ISO 14229) and OBD-II protocols.
- Hands-on experience with different communication protocols, diagnostic authoring tools and diagnostic tools (CANoe, CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy).
- Familiarity with DTC management, fault handling, and ECU flashing.
- Understanding of ISO standards related to diagnostics and communication.
- Good programming skills in C, Python, or scripting for automation.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Good to Have Skills:
- Sound knowledge of diagnostic development at Volkswagen
- Group and their technologies, processes, methods and tools.
- Knowledge of Ethernet diagnostics (DoIP).
- Exposure to OEM diagnostic requirements and compliance testing.
