Role Summary
The Azure SQL Developer will design, develop, and optimize SQL-based data solutions on Microsoft Azure, building scalable data models, writing performant SQL for Azure SQL Database/Azure SQL Managed Instance, and creating data pipelines using Azure-native services. The developer will collaborate with application, data engineering, and DevOps teams to ensure robust, secure, and high-performing cloud data solutions. This role requires strong SQL development skills, experience with database migration, performance optimization, ETL modernization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop T-SQL scripts, stored procedures, views, functions, and schema changes optimized for Azure SQL Database.
- Design logical and physical database models aligned to cloud performance patterns.
- Implement database objects for transactional, operational, and analytical systems.
- Analyze and tune slow-running queries using execution plans and Azure performance insights.
- Implement indexing strategies, partitioning, statistics management, and resource optimization.
- Work with DBAs to ensure high-performing Azure SQL workloads.
- Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Develop and manage data ingestion, transformation, validation, and orchestration processes.
- Use Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Query Store, and performance dashboards.
- Implement automation using PowerShell, Azure CLI, Git, and Azure DevOps pipelines.
- Support CI/CD for database deployments including schema migrations.
- Perform unit testing, data validation, and reconciliation across cloud workflows.
- Support application and analytics teams during development, UAT, and production releases.
- Troubleshoot production issues related to data pipelines and SQL logic.
- Rewrite or refactor SQL code to ensure compatibility with Azure SQL.
- Optimize existing legacy SQL (cursor-based logic, dynamic SQL, heavy joins).
Qualifications:
- Strong hands-on expertise in Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, T-SQL (advanced), Execution plan analysis and query optimization, ETL/ELT using Azure Data Factory, Schema design & data modelling, writing secure and scalable SQL in Azure
- Experience with Git/Azure DevOps (Repos, Pipelines), Azure Storage (Blob, Data Lake) & Azure networking basics (preferred)
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder coordination.
